Trying for more updates!

Well, Loyal Legionnaires, I am trying to post more updates....well you know more often is what I mean. Not that I want to bog you down with tons of stuff.  So we have a couple of pieces.

This first piece is kind of an experiment.  I wanted to try and use more solid blacks on a figure and a bit less feathering and shading. I think is kind of ok..... I am not to comfortable using it yet, but will try some more ways to shade.  This one is kind of from a really rough sketch I did ages ago. I always liked the Tarzan figure so thought I would give it a workover.  Kind of practice for a secret project that I will let everyone in on when I can.  ha.
This second piece is yet another illustration for the KiGor 'War of the Beast Men' that I am working on.  There will be ten illos in all. I think this is number six or seven, I forget. Anyway it is showing Helene's fighting skills.  I always felt she was one of the toughest pulp heroines around, and I really have fun drawing her.  There should be a pulp story cross over between Helene and Nita Van Sloan from the Spider novels.....now I would read that one right off the rack!

Well Legionnaires, I do hope you have a great new year!!!! and hope you had a great holiday!  Let's clink our glasses to a great New Year!!! and thanks for looking in.

Progress report....

Well, Loyal Legionnaires....as promised I will keep you appraised of the work and situations around the Secret Headquarters. Issue 2 of the Phantom Unmasked mini series is lettered and delivered. You will want to pick up both issues, it is a short but quality Phantom story. Written by my good friend Martin Powell, these might be the last Phantom issues from Moonstone (I don't know that for sure but the Phantom goes to the Ross factory next) but what a great ending.
So with that job done I am back on the widevision KiGor story, also written by Martin Powell....Hey what can I say the guy can write the kind of stories I like to be involved with. So as before I got the word the widevision books of Moonstone are greyscaled. So I am going back and shading the pieces I thought were done. Then two more to create and I will post progress and finals on those here too.
Then on to the KiGor ten page story to be published in one of Moonstones' pulp books coming up. If you haven't heard Moonstone is doing a line of pulp influenced books and calling them the 'Originals'. I think it is great, especially since the Spider is one of the books and looks to be a real winner with the team that is in charge. Finally Spider comics, altho Martin and I did a Spider Christmas story a couple of years back.
I am almost finished writing the first draft of the first stand alone Capt. Spectre comic. As voted on here at the blog, it will be a pulp action slobberknocker.
So stay tuned Legionnaires, for updates, concept art, and sneak peeks ..... thanks.... after all it is all for you.

More Jungle progress....

Well not sleeping much has some advantages. Maybe not in the long run, but if I give up a few nights now and then, I get some work done.
Ok, here is a question for you. Since I am a huge fan of pulps, and this widevision format from Moonstone is kind of like a modern pulp....should I grayscale the images? or leave the line work alone? For the most part I think the folks at Moonstone would prefer the grayscaled image thinking since the book isn't color, at least I don't think it is....I better check on that, grayscale is the next step down. Let me know what you think.
Anyway something to ponder.
More progress later this weekend, Legionniares.

Progress of the Jungle....

Progress, slow and steady progress, I hope wins the race. Well it isn't exactly a race until I go past the deadline. Whenever that is. But, I thought you Loyal Legionnaires...and I guess members of the KiGor Jungle Patrol, ha, would like to keep up on the progress of this KiGor pulp widevision story for Moonstone.
Here we have Helene 'stripping' down for jungle action. And of course the scientists on the safari she is leading are shocked and amazed at the freedom she prefers in the jungle.
At this stage I have the pencils in place and have started hacking away with my brush. Of course the scientists are all the stereotypical types.

Hitting the jungle path running.....

During my stint on the 'Mucker' cover Joe at Moonstone contacted Martin Powell, writer of KiGor, and wanted us to turn out a Moonstone 'widevision' compact pulp story. This now will be the public's first contact with KiGor and his world that Martin and I plan to bring to Moonstone. Martin has written a whiz-bang story, and I plan to do about ten illos to go in the prose story. If you haven't seen one of these books, they are pretty cool. A cross between a pulp mag and a comic. Prose on each page and an illo spanning the whole open book on every other or every third page. So any way, I started on the rough layouts and designs inbetween all the other stuff going on. So stay tuned Loyal Legionnaires for more on "The War of the Beast-Men" starring KiGor and Helene. Coming to a comic shop soon....well as soon as I get it done.
